The event took place at the Church of Scientology & Community Centre of Dublin. Speakers represented several areas of community work, providing participants with a broader eu news channel picture of humanitarian activity in and around Dublin.
The work of Clondalkin Helping Homeless was outlined by Mayor of South Dublin Cllr. Francis Timmons, drawing attention to community-based responses to homelessness and financial hardship.
Viktor Kozyrev, co-founder of VOLA Enable, presented programmes designed to improve inclusion and quality of life for people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
Silvia Fani introduced participants to the activities of Scientology Volunteer Ministers, including community projects and responses to emergencies.
The Scientology Volunteer Ministers programme was founded by L. Ron Hubbard in the 1970s as an initiative for practical assistance to individuals and communities. Its motto is “Something Can Be Done About It.”
The afternoon also included a hands-on workshop introducing some of the techniques taught to Volunteer Ministers.
The Dublin event provided a snapshot of the many forms community service can take when groups respond to local needs.
